DESIGN IS ABOUT DOING. Letter, word, sentence, paragraph. Reflection proposal.

Final Outcomes.

DESIGN IS ABOUT DOING. Letter, word, sentence, paragraph. Further ideas and development.

Some ideas on reflection. I wanted to move away from immediate opposites such as black and white, light and dark etc. As we had to design a series of 3 posters by choosing a pair of immediate opposites it would create an awkward third outcome that would have to incorporate a mix e.g.

..this idea seemed weak and would force the third poster to be a compromise.

Here are some thumbnails on the concept of 'reflection', this would be much broader and allow a freedom.

One part of this was the idea of reflecting the colours on a colour wheel.

DESIGN IS ABOUT DOING. Letter, word, sentence, paragraph.

After considering my initial idea of 'the power of punctuation' I found that it was quite hard to chose words that would vary in meaning just due to an addition of punctuation. It was also a challenge to design something that was interesting enough to stand alone and as a set of 3 posters.

DESIGN IS ABOUT DOING. Letter, word, sentence, paragraph. INITIAL PROPOSAL.

With this only being one week brief for a live competition it is important to decide on an idea and as the brief title suggests, 'DESIGN IS DOING'.

Here is my initial ideas.

Design Sheet:

Concept: I hope to create a series of three posters that concentrate on the use of punctuation, and how it can very simply vary the meaning of something. For example the understanding of

yes?
and
yes!

differentiate.

So I intend to investigate different words, sentences and punctuation marks to gather an interesting group of opposites. Not only in english but other languages too (perhaps). I hope to create quite minimalistic posters composed of just type. I might investigate and apply opposites on the colour wheel and use my results, however, this might complicate the final outcome.

I hope to design the typography and final pieces digitally, then print it off on a good quality stock and photograph to create an impact, with bulldog clips holding them up for hopefully an interesting outcome.
