Logo

I went further with the logo development. I wanted to progress with the simplistic look of the san serif 'SCARLET', if I had decided to use a serif typeface then this decision wouldn't have been relevant as I think it would seem too aggressive. I had been playing around with the use of Futurist fixed-width  and it really looked so much better with the use of completely upper case.

My next problem was deciding what information was usually on a whisky label, then what was necessary.

I decided on using: Scarlet/Bourbon Whisky/Year of the whisky - I have used  1975 and where its made Kentucky.

I wanted to stay with using a monochrome theme for the labeling, a lot of reasoning for this can be found at my context blog, but mainly it's because I think it creates a clean look that I think most women will enjoy.
Tried a different typeface here that had a heavier weight and negatively kerned, I did start to like this, however, I think it could be perceived as more masculine.

I considered using a bit of colour, however this seemed to cheapen the logo so decided against this.

I really liked the effect of using a lower opacity for the 1975 as it allowed a less complicated logo as the heirachy of everything is not as effected.

I had decided to order the heirachy as 1. Scarlet 2. Kentucky 3. Bourbon Whisky.

I think the name of the product is obviously the most important piece of information to communicate, but I will probably reassess this at a later date.

Next I was thinking about using some sort of imagery for my label, and quickly vectored a diamond as I thought it would be simple image. Obviously with the target audience being women, I started to consider how if I could get the diamond foiled it might really add to the bottle and impact that the packaging would have on the intended audience.

However, someone mentioned in my crit that this gave the impression of a clear liquid such as whisky.

I also spoke to my peers regarding the name at this point for some reassurance. It was mentioned that perhaps connotations or links were made with Gone With the Wind, although then we started to discuss how one can promote through a character making reference to Sailor Jerry Rum. This will be something to consider but at the moment I will continue with the track I am for the moment.

I really liked how the logo was progressing, and decided that it would be a good idea to look at other places my logo would be seen. For example on screen. I mocked up these web pages for the opening page for my website. I decided to put the red stripe across to try and make some reference to the colour scarlet. Obviously ideas at the moment are quite all over the place so its time to make a decision and rationalise decisions.

I also mocked up boxes for the bottle, obviously these would depend on the bottle shape/size I will decide on later but it was interesting to see how the logo may look and all the considerations with regards to packaging.
