Logo development

I initially wanted to decide on a logo for my product. After a certain amount of discussion and deliberation I thought of the name 'Scarlet'. During my progress crit I mentioned the decision regarding the name and the feedback for this can be seen in my feedback here. I settled on this name due to it's possible links to a personality. I looked at fashion brands and the use of names as labels was something that I thought worked well. I had initially considered names that evoked a purity and quality to the product but decided that names such as 'Pure Whisky' or other similar options weren't going to be very effective due to the lack of imagery I thought I could play with. It would end up being something very bland, lacking in characteristics.

With regards to the logo I wanted to create something that was inspired by my design context blog, due to this brief concentrating on a modern whisky focused towards women I thought that it would be relevant to look at products with a stylistic packaging. Products such as perfume and jewellery packaging was something that I thought was interesting to look at. I had analysed the problem to initially confront was making women want to buy this product. I felt that, knowing myself and other women would help me with this as I could identify with this brief. I believe that women buy with their eyes, especially with regards to to things we do not know a lot about. So my focus was to concentrate on the packaging of this product.

The logo was a starting point and a deciding aspect of the rest of my tone of voice. I wanted to stick to my initial concept proposal and create something that would effectively speak to my target audience.

Initially I wanted to decide between a serif or sans serif typeface, and then progress from there.

These typefaces to me did not represent a modern drink due to the links between serif typefaces and more traditional products.

I wanted to explore the use of san serif typefaces.
