After the final crit I realised that I'd spent so much time looking at Guinnes, the history and looking for health benefits and research that it made sense to create a zine with all this information in.
ZINE PROPOSAL//RATIONAL
Intended audience//students aged 18-25 that enjoy drinking and are yet to appreciate Guinness
Purpose//to inform and way find with a voucher in the back.
Context//handed out within university//put through doors//with other leaflets in university.
Notes// the interesting cover//foiling---to catch the eye of students when viewed with other media.
I have tried to take the images from the design of my labelling for the bottles and translated it to a style I would use for a front cover. The type 'The truth of guinness' creates an enticing cover, and I intend to foil it too, so that it has an overall, striking impact.
I created the type with gold on black then tried 5 different stocks, trialling mainly different colours. As I am spending so much on printing with different trials, the stocks are limited by what I can use in the mac suite printers, however, it still allows me to trial a lot.
The black on black was what I initially thought would look the crispest, however, after getting some students to carry out a mini crit, they said that it wasn't what they would pick and to try different stocks. So I did.....
The brown paper was also something I quite liked, however in comparison to the grey I used, it clashed a bit too much with the gold of the foiling. So therefore, it wasn't used.
I am enjoying this process, designing and trialling different stocks, to create actual branding and packaging is quite rewarding as you get results or trials quite quickly.
