Similarly to the Man Repeller brief I think that this needed to be started through designing an initial logo idea and so I started by looking at Bahrains current logos/flags/visual media which can be seen on my context blog. However, I also noticed other countries logos take something that is strong about the current countries identity and either simplifies it or modernises is....sometimes both. When researching I noticed the strong colours and shapes in the emblems of the country. The red and white represents the pearls of Bahrain being presented on red cloths...
So I decided to adapt the triangles originally achieved from the logos as I initially found the crest etc as I wanted a more angular triangle to work with.
By playing with multiple triangles and shades from the original identity I realised that the direction and shape I was designing could not be rationalised so decided to go back to the shape of Bahrain and explore how many islands make up the country. This research allowed me to then create a more relevant logo for the country.
So this is where I got to and decided at this point that it did not need any more depth to it for now...
Next I wanted to explore colour options and typographic decisions.
I wanted to explore bold bright colours, not necessarily for use in this project but just to see how it worked as it could be relevant further on). It was just interesting to see where the colours could go and whether it would work being all one colour, perhaps even the type too.
I think that could work if the colour choices were more relevant but its interesting to see more random colours at this point as I'm not totally sure where I'd be going with colour decisions.
As I am (for the moment) happy with the image for the logo, the decision of typeface is something that I am less clear on however I think that of this selection that the light weight sans serif typefaces are what works, it also doesnt need to be obliqued either.
Next I wanted to start looking at colour swatches and for this I started looking at photographs of Bahrain and so have chosen a couple of the photographs to take forward to using the colours from.
I have decided that with regards to further use of the logo I am going to have certain colours for certain aspects of Bahrain in terms of
Nightlife
Cuisine
Beaches
Tourism
etc
These have turned out quite interesting in the colours used. I decided to try and use 3 different colours to make the logo less flat..this is something that I think works well with the black grey and red like in the initial logo. However, the colours are something to be worked on as I dont think they work that well. They are definitely not as strong as the original colours so will continue to look into this...
