PEACOCKS invite

Intent
The intent of this invitation is to increase promotion with the right target audience, we have decided to send it out to varying magazine companies. Due to high street brands becoming more and more fashionable, even magazines such as Vogue feature some clothing from cheaper shops. Therefore, we believe that our target audience could be surprisingly vast. We want to appeal to as many people as possible.

Mock up
I have previously blogged about the different folds that were considered and this lead to a conversation with Claudia, I wanted her to be happy with what I'd decided. Although she'd been working with most of the screen-based design, it was important that what I was designing would work with that, rather than look completely unrelated.

Design
My context blog has been my main resource throughout this design process, although, I wanted to design something that would stand out for the receiver as I can imagine they get quite a lot of post.

Steps / processes
I had initially thought about creating something with a concertina fold, this was then dismissed as I thought it would involve too much information that would just irritate the receiver. Next I considered a design similar to this,

So started to design for a folded outcome, which led me to needing to use quite a lot of photographs, and I decided it could be used to promote some of the clothing...

However, I decided that this really wasn't something that would excite the reader at all about the event and that what I was creating was looking more like a leaflet that had been put in a magazine.

SO....I went back to researching and saw something that inspired me to consider laser cutting into a sleeve to put the invitation in.

As seen on the recent crit boards I had proposed getting 'An invitation to...' cut out, but then thought that this was quite long winded and did not add much suspense. So thought about cutting out the date of the event, so that the reader would be interested to understand the relevance of this.

By not giving too much away initially, I thought the design would be sleek and interesting to receive.

So I designed a simplistic net and edited the numbers so that when cut out there would not be too much cut out, for example the '0', I didnt want to lose its definition.

A few photographs from the laser cutter.

Final product

The intivation and laser cut sleeve was cut out on thick cream stock, then the invitation was mounted onto a double layer of black card to give it a good thickness.

I had considered using a brighter colour to mount the invitation on, however, I had to consider what would work with the rest of the designs and black seemed to be the only option that was neutral enough to work with and that would still create a good contrast through the cream.
