Feedback
For this crit we began by thinking of three questions we would like answering. These were:
- We've suggested posters, adverts etc. What do you think the most appropriate method of delivery is?
- What do you think of the logo? Do you think it would ruin our designs?
- And suggestions for beyond the obvious ways of promoting Peacocks and creating a buzz?
Things to think about while giving feedback:
- What is the problem?
- Concept development - research
- Is the design proposal appropriate
- What is it - what could it be?
We then talked through our design direction boards while the other groups filled in the feedback sheets.
1
Problem Analysis
- Well informed about the company and the customer range. Analysed the problem
- Understood the brand is not representing younger generations well
Conceptual Development
- Research where Peacocks promotes itself and how you can bring more awareness
- Well researched on the company and the problem is understood
Design Proposal
- Poster campaign would be good idea, using crisp photography and layout
- Touching on the tone of voice appropriate for the rebrand
- Look at how topshop is branded
- Cheap and fashionable feel
- Don't like logo but you would loose customer base if you get rid of it
2
Problem Analysis
- Problem - company in debt - need a campaign
- Needs to be brought up to date
- Have done primary research
- Not fashionable - how to make them fashionable like other companies
Conceptual Development
- Look into Wales stores
- Primary research - work off this
- What do people look for / how do they perceive it / how can you change that
Design proposal
- Poster campaign/editorial
- Identity
- Word of mouth (twitter / website)
- Celebrity promotional
- Cheap and fashionable
- Magazines
Other Feedback
- Use a grid when designing boards as things aren't aligned so doesn't look as professional as it could
- Look at magazines where they recreate a celebrities outfit cheaper
Action Plan
- For Monday, we have decided we will decide what exactly it is we are trying to convey about Peacocks (are we re-launching them or just a general advertising campaign?)
- We will find plenty of images of Peacocks clothing that we can use in our mock ups
- We will do more research to find examples of existing Peacocks advertising and advertising for other clothes stores
- We will consider font choices for designs and colour schemes
- We will design mock up posters for the Pearl Lowe range, a re-launch event and a general advertising poster
- We will think of design ideas for posters, website designs, twitter and Facebook campaigns, and bags and labels
We have quite a bit of time over the weekend to spend thinking of these ideas, then hopefully next week we can decide what our final idea will be, and make any plans that need to be made in preparation for this.
Submission Deliverables
We then had a short lecture about how we need to submit this competition work, as this may effect what we produce.
- Design for proposal - not being taken through to actual product
- Need to create a YCN account and download submission forms, check deliverables and prepare submission
- Presentation pitches are on Tue 27/3 and the online submission is Fri 30/3
- Need to check file size and formats for the digital upload
- Can send physical products
- Screen grab receipt as proof of submission
- How you photograph work is important - need good lighting and to get the best angles
- Boards need to be set out well and be made using a grid
- What is the product and what context does it fit? (e.g. mock up the posters on bus stops, billboards, store fronts etc...)
- Try tracing off photographs on illustrations if they are bad quality (such as store fronts with your adverts in)
- Clarify and communicate ideas
- Submission boards for college needed as well containing evidence of development
- Concept / pitch / contextualised
