Collection 100 Research Proposal.

I am going to collect/record document...

Peoples favourite clothes, hoping to create an interesting documentation of a collection of 'favourite outfits'. Investigating what pieces of clothing people 'cannot live without', and organising this data. This research will also investigate fashion and how important what someone wears is, how far we judge others on what they're wearing. I will generally investigate the importance and generally fashion through reading a variety of fashion magazines, ranging from look to vogue to mens GQ. Investigating the language used for the variety of audience and how the presentation and layout changes for each target audience.

Possible categories will include...

Items of clothing: e.g. t-shirts, jumpers, shirts, trousers, skirts, shoes, accessories - hats, scarves etc.
Target audiences: men, women, children.
Colour
Type of material.
Formality of clothing.
Uniforms.

PRIMARY methods of research

How?
I will create questionnaires that I can gather qualitative and quantitative research from.
Reading articles in magazines, online blogs, newspapers and other media.

Who?
I intend to gather information from a wide variety of people to create a fairer investigation, by going into Leeds and asking people quick questions that they can answer quickly, although friends at college will probably be more willing to fill out more extensive written questionnaires. This will obviously limit my findings however through using different medias I hope to make a fair judgement as far as I can.

SECONDARY methods of research

How?
Fashion magazines
Fashion blogs
Other research carried out by others if possible.
Online, videos/youtube etc
Art by others, Mark Howe's photography

Who?
I will use the internet to research initially but hope to also investigate interviews/transcripts, tv programs, books and magazines to hopefully broaden my investigation and make it more interesting. I will look at design work that is related to fashion, how the audience dictates how things are designed and possibly define some rules or results.
