I wanted to try out something that I had seen by a wine company, it has been blogged on my context blog, (image below). As I was struggling with thoughts on how to modify the current Guinness packaging. I thought that perhaps if I created this effect with the current GUINNESS typeface. Then it would be using the current logo/identity in a new way. This would also require a change in the bottles glass, as it would either have to be clear or a light colour allowing the type to be readable through the glass.
I went on to start designing, the above labels with the intention of the solid black Guinness type to be cut out, allowing the reverse to show through. I had also taken some inspiration from pill packets, relating the labeling to medication. Considering the proposal that a bottle of Guinness was like a prescription. This inspired me to use limited colours and make the emphasis on the type.
These mock ups show how the labels would look both on the beer carrier and bottles.
At this stage of the project I wanted to investigate lazer cutting. I went to the book an induction as I could not produce a clear cut out for the type.
HOWEVER!!! The lazer cutting inductions were fully booked till after Christmas. So, I have an induction booked for the first week back. Obviously this would be too late for this project so I decided that this idea would be proposed but that this would not be worth exploring further as I think it would be a bit ridiculous.
