After effects, workshop 1: the basics

For the standard workspace

Behind info for audio work

Within each project, we have compositions.

Ensure labelling correctly as lots of compositions within one project!!!

Video regions. UK- PAL//USA//NTSC

We work at a frame rate of 25 frames a second.

Hours:Mins:Secs:Frames

Black represents nothing. It is the absence of light.

click okay......

If you see values that are yellow, this means you can change it. Click on the number, and type in the chosen size. Useful if you need specific values.

The current time indicator plays through frame by frame

By dragging the red bar, it edits how long the square is visible for.

Changing the position, you simply click and drag the shape.

Each layer can only contain ONE thing at a time.

Can change the timing and see how it looks, but cannot show real time.
Showing it by dragging the line along is called SCRUBBING.

By pressing the space bar, it plays it through. Useful for simple things. However when you press the space bar with lots of information - it will struggle.

Third way of previewing.

If you see the computer begin to stutter or pause when playing, can change from FULL to lesser.

CMD + or CMD - can scroll in and out of composition window.

Tilde key allows you can expand on the window selected

When saving, only one choice really. Simple.

Can change the value of the properties for each layer this way.
Anchor point changes where the shape is in relation to where the shape is.

Tweening: Inbetweening or tweening is the process of generating intermediate frames between two images to give the appearance that the first image evolves smoothly into the second image. Inbetweens are the drawings between the key frames which help to create the illusion of motion. ...

A key frame in animation and filmmaking is a drawing that defines the starting and ending points of any smooth transition. They are called "frames" because their position in time is measured in frames on a strip of film. ...

To change the key frames, press ALT which allows you to expand and reduce the size of the key
frames in relation to each other.

Larger bar below frame time line, allows you to loop a specific time if you want to analyse or work on.

Keyboard shortcuts.

p : position
a : anchor point
r : rotate
s : size
t : opacity (think transparency)
